I have installed and configured a printer on my LAN. However, it seems I must associate it with a computer acting as a print server before I can use it. Why can't I just install the drivers on my own PC and use it directly?

Jay,

You can do that.

If you are using TCP/IP with a JetDirect in the printer, you can install the drivers on your own PC, and print directly to the printer.

I suggest install the "HP Standard TCP/IP Port."

First, download and install the "HP Install Network Printer Wizard" from this location:

link

Next, run the Network Printer Wizard from your Start menu.

Please let us know what happens.
