More often than not when I attempt to access the Printer Assistant, all I get is a blank window. This would not be so bothersome if there were some other way to access the maintenance functions like cartridge alignment, cleaning cycles, etc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times now. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, does anyone know what the button-press codes are for the 5550 for these functions (i.e., hold the power button, press the cancel button 3 times, release power, etc.)?

The tap test for your printer would be:
1. Verify full-sized media is loaded into the tray.
2. Press and hold the Power button.
3. While holding down the Power button, press and release the Cancel
button 8 times.
4. Continue holding the Power button and press and release the Resume
button 4 times.
5. Release the Power button.

If the printer assistant screen is blank try uninstalling the driver, delete the hp deskjet assistant folder and download and install the driver.

1. Right-click on the My Computer icon or on the Start button
(Taskbar).
2. From the menu that appears, click on Explore.
3. In the left frame with the heading Folders, click on the (+) symbol
next to C: drive to view the contents of the C: drive.
4. Under C: driver, click on the (+) symbol next to Program Files.
5. Click on the (+) symbol next to Hewlett-Packard.
6. Right-click on hp deskjet assistant and from the drop down menu
select Delete to delete this folder.

If you have a Zip drive on your system, it could be be interfering with your printer assistant. Especially Zip Magic. Go into MSCONFIG (Start, Run, type in MSCONFIG). Go into the startup tab and see if this is listed: zm32.exe. If it is, remove the check mark and click on Ok and agree to restart your computer. Try accessing the printer assistant.

Hope this helps.
